It’s a scenic 25 minute floatplane flight from Kodiak. In the multitude of spruce-forested fjords, this fantastic log wilderness lodge has been built & operated since 1973, providing classy year-round contemporary “get-away” comfort. The lush natural beauty is unequalled, causing Afognak to be dubbed as the "jewel" of the Kodiak Islands.
Multiple boats (cabin-cruisers, kayaks, skiffs) & experienced guides provide yet another choice outstanding mosquito less up-close wildlife viewing.

Wildlife ranges from the Kodiak Brown Bear, Elk, Deer, Beaver, Fox, Land Otter to assorted sea-mammals [migrating Orca, Humpback & Grey whales, Sea lion, Seal, Sea-otter], soaring Bald-Eagles, Falcons and comical Puffins. Some veteran travelers consider Denali Park to be their best time investment for interior wildlife and Afognak Island's north end as their best time investment for marine wildlife, due to the variety and abundance available.
The lodge
The husky hand-hewn log facilities for 12 guests are unique. Each spacious (1,000 sq ft) log guest cabin has 2 bedrooms, a living room and a modern bathroom with constant electricity, tasteful appointments throughout and great views from every window. Each bedroom has a queen & twin bed, with wall-to-wall carpeting, curtains. Each living room has several swivel rockers, a day-bed, high-tech heater and carpeting. Each bathroom has a glass shower with instant hot water, vanity and flush-toilet.

Hearty local cuisine is served family-style in the main lodge plus a dandy packed-lunch for an uninterrupted day with Mother Nature. After supper, guests are welcome to linger by the fireplace, use the sauna, stroll along the forested cove to delight in the resident sea-otters, go water-skiing or dabble in some more fishing.
Our lodge is a wilderness vacation retreat on the mountainous and densely forested Afognak Island, one of the Kodiak Islands group. Encompassing nearly 50,000 acres Afognak Island State Park can be accessed via air or boat. It is ideal for those who want a casual yet active and adventurous day in the freedom of wilderness and sea, whether your interests are in photography, sport fishing or just having fun.
