Kachemak Bay Kayaking & Cabin Rental
from Homer, Alaska
THE CABINS

The wilderness cabins are located at the head of beautiful Kachemak Bay, just a short boat ride from Homer. Begin your journey from the dock in Homer and travel by water taxi across the bay to the cabin resort. Enjoy your stay in your own private fully equipped cabin.

Area
Sitting just off the bluff of a canyon carved by tidal action from the Kachemak Bay waters and overlooking a creek, this area is known as a bight. This bight is attractive to an abundance of marine animals. During certain times of the year salmon can be seen schooling in this area. Often, seals can be seen coming into the bight to hunt these fish.

The distinct call of the loon can be heard while watching the many sea and fresh water birds and ducks while they hunt for food and fish. Wildlife seen from the Viewing Deck include all five species of salmon, seals, sea lion, octopus, eagles, sea and river otters, sea ducks, fresh water ducks, loons, wolves, moose, bear, and lynx. This magnificent scenery offers outstanding photographic opportunities.

Activities

Sea Kayaking: We offer a fleet of new recreational kayaks including both single and double kayaks. Start your kayaking expedition from the sheltered beach. If you have not kayaked before don’t worry one of our staff members will give you instruction until you are ready to venture out on your own. The cove is roughly three miles in length and one mile wide and offers many opportunities to get out and venture along the shoreline. Also for those more adventuresome paddlers many opportunities exist outside of the cove at the head of the Bay. Paddlers are almost guaranteed to see wildlife during one of these outings.

Canoeing: We also offer a new safe wide body canoe on Loon Lake, an alpine Lake above the cove. Paddle along this alpine lake along with the Loons that give it, its name. Glaciers above the lake make for many photo opportunities.

Boating: We have for your use two, three person row boats. We also offer sightseeing tours aboard one of our fleet vessels.

Hiking: Many trails exist around the cove. Due to deadfall many of the old trails are tough to navigate. Several have been groomed and are awaiting an adventurous soul to travel along their path. A detailed map outlining these trails is available for you in your private cabin.

Beachcombing: The area offers miles of wonderful shoreline to explore. Marine and Sea life are abundant and can be seen in one of the many tidal pools. The unique geologic structure also offers many interesting and photographic opportunities

Clam digging: The beaches are rich with blue mussels, butter and steamer clams. Buckets and rakes are available. Enjoy these tasty morsels steamed over hot coals from the comfort of your private cabin deck.
