Camping & Sea Kayaking Tour - Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska |
Glacier Bay is known as one of the best Sea Kayaking destinations in the world. The scenery is stunning, the wildlife plentiful, and the wilderness is truly wild. As we cruise into the watery wilderness of Glacier Bay National Park, you can witness a landscape at its literal moment of creation. When George Vancouver and his H.M.S. Discovery explored Southeast Alaska's coastline in 1794, Glacier Bay lay buried beneath a mile-thick ice sheet extending all the way to its mouth at Icy Strait. But the ice has beaten a remarkably hasty retreat over the last two centuries, exhuming a raw, misty realm of steep-sided fjords and tidewater glaciers. Our days will be spend exploring the various inlets, watching wildlife and calving glacier but also enjoying short hikes on the hills above the beaches. Our professional sea kayak guides will offer instruction in all the arts of sea kayaking including navigation, beach landings, paddling technique and more. Join us for this unique adventure in Glacier Bay.

Day 02 - 04 Kayaking Glacier Bay
In the early morning enjoy a hearty brekfast before taking the charter boat for a scenic cruise to Tarr Inlet. We unload our gear and set up camp. For the next few days we explore the different inlets, observe wildlife and tidewater glaciers. An intriguing part of this trip is floating in your kayak beneath the 200'-high face of Margerie Glacier, one of the most active ice flows in Glacier Bay. The sloughing of bus-sized bergs becomes commonplace, and you can get lucky - stay clear - when a house-sized one falls. Whale sightings around Russell Island are likely in the summer. Murres, marbled murrelets, and kittiwakes are often seen in Tarr Inlet. In addition, scaup, golden eye, and surf scoters sometimes raft together in large numbers in the bay east of Russell Island.
